Buyer research

Questions buyers ask about the Tomahawk

Common pre-purchase questions on the HSD Tomahawk.

Q1

What did HSD trade to cut 100 lbs from the BattleAxe?

Remarkably little. The Tomahawk keeps the 21″ FLH formula, 107 dB sensitivity, and extension to 29 Hz (-3 dB) / 26 Hz (-10 dB), in a 23.75″-wide, 250 lb cabinet. Continuous handling is 2,300 W versus the BattleAxe's 2,500 W, and the -10 dB point gives up a few Hz. For touring fleets, the weight savings pay for themselves every load-in.

Q2

What amplifier drives the Tomahawk?

2,300 W continuous (4,600 W program) at 4 ohms nominal. One Tomahawk per channel of the HSD KP Series 4-10KP or KD Series 4-10KD (2,500 W per channel into 4 ohms) is a clean one-to-one match, four Tomahawks per 2U amp, with HSD FIR presets and limiting per channel.

Q3

What tops pair with the Tomahawk?

The Haymaker is the classic partner: tri-amped 3-way over a pair of Tomahawks per side is the archetypal HSD touring rig. The Uppercut suits smaller footprints, and Hammer mid-bass slots in when the show scales.

Q4

Is the Tomahawk festival-capable or just a mobile box?

It is a real 21″ front-loaded horn, the same species as the BattleAxe, in trail gear. Clusters of Tomahawks build genuine festival low end; the difference shows up in the truck and on the ramp, not on the dance floor.

Tops

Haymaker 3-way

The classic HSD pairing: Haymaker over Tomahawks is the archetypal high-output touring rig.

Big sibling

BattleAxe 21″ FLH

When the show is static and output rules, the BattleAxe adds handling and deeper -10 dB reach for 90 more pounds.

Amplification

HSD KD Series 4-10KD

2,500 W per channel into 4 ohms: one Tomahawk per channel, four per amp.
