Buyer research
Common pre-purchase questions on the HSD Battleaxe.
It is the box that built the brand's festival reputation: a 21″ front-loaded horn with usable output down to 25 Hz, 2,500 W continuous handling, and 107 dB sensitivity. For large-scale venues and events that demand real sub-bass pressure, not just extension on a spec sheet, the BattleAxe has been the go-to.
It is offered with a 4- or 8-ohm driver ($7,100 either way). With the 4-ohm driver, one BattleAxe sits one-to-one on a 2,500 W channel of the HSD KP Series 4-10KP or KD Series 4-10KD, four subs per four-channel amp. Choose the 8-ohm driver when you want to parallel pairs per channel on higher-power KD models; we will spec the right combination for your wall.
All 21″-class FLH subs (the Sherman is a 24). The BattleAxe ($7,100) is the renowned original. The Battlehawk ($7,500) is its evolution, flatter response and 3,000 W handling. The Tomahawk ($6,100) cuts 100 lbs for touring. The Sherman ($10,600) is the 24″ flagship: one Sherman equals two BattleAxes. The right answer depends on whether weight, budget, or output leads your spec.
The classic HSD stack adds Cannon bandpass horns for the 65–220 Hz band and Mantarray 60 or Haymaker tops above. Its stable 50″-tall cabinet is the base layer the rest of the wall is designed around.
Every BattleAxe is built to order in Massachusetts, with lead times typically around 90 days. It carries a 5-year limited warranty, free factory training is included, and custom paint is available for $500 per cabinet. We will walk you through ordering and payment when we quote your system.
