HSD Haymaker

Model PS181041

Tri-amped 3-way point-source that punches far above its footprint.

The Haymaker is a robust 3-way, tri-amped loudspeaker built around an 18" woofer, a 10" mid driver, and four 1" compression drivers, delivering exceptional clarity and impact across the full range. With integrated fly points and customizable waveguides (90/60/40-degree horizontal), it works as a standalone top for smaller productions and scales into a large-format powerhouse when paired with HSD subwoofers. HSD Sound Systems Haymaker point-source top by Hennessey Sound Design

Amplification

Passive cabinet, amplification required
The Haymaker is tri-amped: the LF, MF, and HF sections each take a dedicated amplifier channel (8 ohms per section). A four-channel HSD KP Series amp runs one Haymaker with a channel to spare; step up to the 4-10KP for maximum LF headroom. HSD tunings load from the amp's 100-preset library with FIR processing.

Buyer research

Questions buyers ask about the Haymaker

Common pre-purchase questions on the HSD Haymaker.

Q1

What amplifier drives the Haymaker?

The Haymaker is a passive, tri-amped design, so plan three amplifier channels per cabinet: LF (1,200 W continuous), MF (400 W), and HF (400 W), each at 8 ohms nominal. One four-channel HSD KP Series amplifier (4-6KP: 4 × 1,500 W into 4 ohms) runs a single Haymaker with a spare channel, and the 4-10KP adds LF headroom. HSD presets with FIR crossovers load directly on the amp.

Q2

Which waveguide option should I order?

The Haymaker ships with customizable horizontal waveguides: 90 × 15 degrees for wide, short-throw rooms; 60 × 15 for general-purpose coverage; and 40 × 15 for long throw or tighter side-by-side arrays. Tell us the room and throw distance and we will spec the pattern with you before the build starts.

Q3

Can the Haymaker fly?

Yes. Integrated fly points are built into the cabinet, and at 155 lbs it is manageable for flown or ground-stacked deployment. It works as a standalone top for smaller productions and scales into a large-format system over HSD mid-bass and subs.

Q4

What subs pair with the Haymaker?

For touring weight, the Tomahawk 21″ FLH is the classic partner. For maximum low-end authority, the BattleAxe or Battlehawk reach usable output into the mid-20 Hz range. The Hammer dual-18 mid-bass horn uses an altered version of the Haymaker's own horn path, so the voicing match through the mid-bass region is seamless.

Q5

Is the Haymaker built to order?

Yes. Every HSD cabinet is CNC-cut, assembled, polyurea-coated, and tested at the Hennessey Sound Design shop in Massachusetts. Lead times are typically around 90 days, and every cabinet carries HSD's 5-year limited warranty with free factory training when your system is complete.
