Buyer research

Questions buyers ask about the Hammer

Common pre-purchase questions on the HSD Hammer.

Q1

What does a dedicated mid-bass horn actually do for a system?

It takes the 60–250 Hz band, kick drum, bass guitar, the punch of dance music, off your subs and tops and gives it its own horn with 108 dB sensitivity. The subs stop straining to reach up, the tops stop straining to reach down, and the system gains the physical impact that front-loaded horn rigs are known for.

Q2

Why does the Hammer pair so well with the Haymaker?

The Hammer's horn is a slightly altered version of the Haymaker's own horn path, scaled to load dual 18″ drivers. The two cabinets share a family voicing through the crossover region, so a Haymaker-over-Hammer stack transitions seamlessly.

Q3

What amplifier drives the Hammer?

It handles 2,400 W continuous (4,800 W program) at 8 ohms nominal. One channel per cabinet on the HSD KP Series/KD Series platform is the straightforward setup; on the KD Series 4-20KD (5,000 W into 4 ohms per channel) you can parallel two Hammers per channel and run eight boxes from one 2U amp.

Q4

Hammer, V-Horn, or Cannon, which mid-bass box?

The Hammer is the output king: dual 18s, 2,400 W, 108 dB, for large stacks. The V-Horn packs a single 15″ into a 24 × 24 × 36″ box for mobile rigs where space and manpower are limited. The Cannon is a straight 18″ bandpass horn designed specifically to ride on top of big FLH sub stacks. Tell us the rest of the rig and we will spec the right one.
