Buyer research
Common pre-purchase questions on the HSD Southpaw.
It is a high-mid extension cabinet, 220 Hz to 20 kHz (-3 dB), built for front-fill, out-fill, delay towers, and monitor duty in larger or asymmetrical rooms. It is not a standalone full-range box: it hands everything below its passband to your mains and subs, which is exactly what makes it light (50 lbs) and affordable ($2,000).
Deliberately. The Southpaw carries the Uppercut's 8″ midrange and 1.4″ compression driver, so fills and delays sound like the mains, same voicing, same clarity, seamless integration when a listener walks from the main coverage zone into fill coverage.
Two channels per cabinet (MF 250 W / HF 100 W continuous, 8 ohms per section). A four-channel HSD KP Series amp runs two Southpaws, with HSD presets and delay settable per output for fill and delay alignment.
Yes. At 50 lbs with 60 × 40 coverage and the same HF clarity as HSD's mains, it does monitor duty comfortably. For dedicated performer monitoring with low end, look at HSD's monitor line: the Reference 12 and DJ18.
System design
The Southpaw is the fill-and-delay companion to HSD's point-source mains.
The Southpaw shares its exact MF/HF section. Run Uppercut mains and Southpaw fills for one consistent voice across the room.
On bigger productions, Southpaws cover front rows and under-balcony zones the Haymaker's long-throw pattern flies over.
Two Southpaws per 4-channel amp, with per-output delay for fill alignment.
