A subwoofer that sounds impressive in a demo room can still be the wrong tool for a festival. Outdoor event duty is a different job, and it makes four demands that indoor gear never faces at the same intensity:
- Sustained output for hours. A festival set is not a two-song demo. The boxes run at high output from doors to curfew, in direct sun, and the design has to shed heat and hold its performance for the whole day, day after day.
- Weather exposure. Dust, humidity, rain edges, and temperature swings are part of the deal. Cabinets, hardware, and connectors need to be built for a life outdoors, not just tolerate it once.
- Truck packing. Every box gets loaded, strapped, hauled, and unloaded repeatedly. Corners, handles, and finishes take real abuse, and a cabinet that cannot survive the truck never makes it to year three.
- Rigging and stacking. Festival bass gets deployed in stacks and arrays on uneven ground. The cabinet needs to stack securely and predictably, because a wobbling bass stack next to a crowd is not a sound quality problem, it is a safety problem.
