Hill Country outdoor venue · Multi-zone · Weatherized
A Hill Country bar plus restaurant plus outdoor live stage plus fire-pit patio plus indoor sit-down all sharing one operational system. We hid weatherized 12-inch coaxials in the trees along the patio perimeter, mounted others on poles for the seating zones, and ran a single 18 sub for the outdoor stage that handles touring bands without bothering the highway noise floor. Inside: single 9 coaxials and a single 15 sub for the indoor stage. The whole thing runs off one FBS control network.
The brief
The operator wanted a multi-zone venue that did not feel like four separate rooms. Outdoor patio sits next to a busy state highway (high noise floor), so the system had to push through ambient road noise without being unpleasant. The indoor bar has a small live stage. The outdoor stage hosts live bands several nights a week. Multiple zones, multiple weather conditions, year-round Texas heat and cold and rain.
The build
| Role | Product | Qty | Why this cabinet |
|---|---|---|---|
| Patio perimeter speakers | Weatherized 12-inch coaxials | 6+ cabinets in trees and on poles | Hidden in trees and mounted on perimeter poles. Polyurea finish handles Texas weather (sun, rain, cold) year-round. Multiple cabinets distribute coverage evenly so no single position is loud. |
| Outdoor stage sub | Dual 18 production sub | 1 cabinet | Single dual 18 handles touring bands on the outdoor stage. Sized appropriately for the outdoor reverberant field; bigger would project past the property line. |
| Outdoor stage tops | Weatherized 12-inch coaxial pair | 2 cabinets, stage front | Same weatherized coaxials, deployed as front-of-house tops for the live stage. Touring bands describe being skeptical when they see the rig, then impressed when they hear it. |
| Indoor bar tops | Single 9 horn-loaded full-range | 4 cabinets | Compact single 9 with 90 by 60 horn. Small footprint inside the bar; reads clean at conversation level + party level. |
| Indoor stage sub | Single 15 install sub | 1 cabinet | BB15 for the indoor stage. Small footprint per the indoor space premium; provides real low end without crowding the room. |
| Multi-zone control | FBS network DSP across all 4 zones | 1 main + wireless surfaces | Outdoor patio, outdoor stage, indoor bar, indoor stage each route independently. The bar staff runs everyday operation off a single control surface; the FOH engineer at the outdoor stage can override during shows. |
The result
The front-of-house engineer at the venue describes the cabinets as "some of the best sleeper cabinets I have ever worked with. Touring bands roll up, see the gear, and ask whether it will be loud enough. The minute the sub comes on, their eyes light up. They come to me afterward saying these are really impressive cabinets." The outdoor system runs through every Texas weather extreme and the indoor zones never bleed into the patio.
In their own words
From the interview
Josh
Front of House Engineer
My name is Josh. I am the front of house here at the Screaming Goat Yard Tavern in Spring Branch, Texas. I just want to give a little quick review on BASSBOSS cabinets. They are some of the best sleeper cabinets I have ever worked with. I will have bands from all over the country roll up, and they will see the subs, they will see the tops, and they will be like, oh, well, is there going to be enough output? Is it going to be loud enough? Is it going to have enough frequency spectrum? And I tell them, just you wait and see. The minute they hear the sub come on, their eyes light up. They are grinning ear to ear. And they are coming to me afterwards saying, these are some really impressive cabinets. So BASSBOSS, whatever you do, keep it up.
